Watch Fla. Police Use 'Grappler' to Stop Fleeing Armed Carjackers
Two armed carjacking suspects ended up in handcuffs Tuesday after Florida police deployed a "Grappler" to stop the fleeing teens.
The incident happened at about 4:30 p.m. in Hollywood when two 17-year-old males wearing ski masks allegedly confronted a man returning home from a trip to the grocery store, WPLG-TV reports. The suspects took off with the man's Chevrolet Camaro after showing a gun and taking the car's keys.
Hollywood police located the stolen Camaro and tried to pull over the vehicle. A chase ensued, and the suspects crashed into a cruiser and swerved into a fence while fleeing.
During the pursuit, police deployed a Grappler device, which hooked the car's reart tires and brought it to a stop. The Grappler officers used is one of six the department had recently acquired.
Both teens were apprehended and face armed carjacking and other charges. Police recovered a gun that had been thrown from the car during the chase.
